List Upload File Guide
Uploading your subscriber list correctly is essential for a successful import into cmercury. Follow these guidelines to prepare your file before uploading.
Accepted File Types
- .csv (Comma Separated Values) – Preferred format
- .txt (Plain Text) – Supported if properly formatted
- Maximum file size: 5 MB
File Format Guidelines
Header Row (Mandatory):
- The first row should contain the field names (e.g., email, first_name, last_name, gender, dob, etc.)
- Avoid special characters in headers (e.g., ! @ # $ % ^ & *)
Required Fields:
- The “email” field is mandatory.
- The header must be exactly “email” – not variations like email id, Email_Id, or email address.
- We recommend placing the email field as the first column, followed by the remaining fields.
- Other fields are optional and can be mapped during the upload process.
Field Separation:
- Use commas for .CSV files.
- For .TXT files, use tab-separated values.
Consistent Field Structure:
- Each row should contain the same number of fields as the header row.
- Empty columns are allowed but must follow the structure.
Important Upload Tips
- Ensure valid email formats (e.g., name@example.com).
- Avoid duplicate entries within the same file. cmercury will take the last data if the same email repeats, but it will not upload the same email as two separate entries.
- Do not include formulae, special formatting, or hidden characters.
- File should not contain any subheaders or merged cells.
- Always save your file as CSV (comma delimited) before uploading.
What Not to Include
- No embedded images, scripts, or links
- No encrypted or password-protected files
- No third-party mailing list contacts (must be opt-in)
Before You Upload
- Review your data to avoid typos or invalid characters.
- Check for proper column alignment.
