How to Use the  Test your Email  Feature in cmercury

Overview

The Test your Email feature in cmercury allows campaign managers to send a test version of their email campaign before launching it live.

This helps ensure your email’s design, content, and links look perfect across different mail clients and devices.

Purpose of Testing Before you Go Live

Test your Email acts as a final checkpoint before sending your campaign to your full audience. It lets you:

  • Preview your email content and design.
  • Verify link functionality.
  • Test image rendering across mail clients.
  • Check how your text-only version appears in clients that don’t support HTML emails.
  • Ensure that key compliance elements (like the unsubscribe link) are present.

Accessing the Test your Email Module.

Once your campaign is ready:

  1. Navigate to the Campaigns section.
  2. Open the campaign you wish to test.
  3. Click the Send Test Email button to open the  popup window.

Test Email Popup Overview

1. Who’s Getting It?

Enter one or more email addresses (separated by commas) in the provided field.
These are the recipients who will receive your test emails.

Note:

  • If any email address is not already part of your list, cmercury will automatically add it as an active subscriber.
  • These subscribers will receive future campaigns unless manually removed from your list.

Your test email will include [test] in the subject line, helping you easily identify it in your inbox.

2. Want to Include a Text-Only Version?

You can send a plain-text version of your email along with the HTML version by checking the box:

☑️ Send a text version – This helps you preview how your campaign appears in mail clients that block images or support only text-based emails.

Tip: Maintaining a text-only version improves deliverability and accessibility. Some ISPs and spam filters give higher trust scores to emails that include both HTML and text versions.

3. Sending the Test

After entering your test recipients and choosing your options:

  • Review your campaign content.
  • Click [Send Test Email] to send both versions (if enabled).

The Test email is usually delivered within a few seconds.

Important Note on Live Campaign Sends

When your campaign goes live, cmercury automatically determines which version to deliver to each recipient.
Each contact receives only one version of the email — either HTML or text — depending on what their mail client supports.

System Alerts During Test

If key elements are missing from your campaign, cmercury will show in-app alerts before allowing the test to proceed.

Text Version Missing

⚠️ Your campaign doesn’t have a text version.
[Add Text Version]

Why it matters:
A text version ensures that subscribers using basic or text-only mail clients can still read your content. It also improves your sender reputation and deliverability.

Unsubscribe Link Missing

⚠️ Your campaign doesn’t include an unsubscribe link.
[Add Unsubscribe Link]

Why it matters:
Including an unsubscribe link is mandatory under most email marketing compliance policies (CAN-SPAM, GDPR, etc.). It prevents accidental spam marking and helps maintain list hygiene.

Best Practices

  • Always send at least one Test before launching a campaign.
  • Test using different email clients (e.g., Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail) to ensure layout consistency.
  • Double-check that your subject line, links, and images render correctly.
  • Include both HTML and Text versions for improved deliverability.
  • Ensure your unsubscribe link is clearly visible and functional.

Troubleshooting

If you don’t receive your  Test email:

  • Check your spam or promotions folder.
  • Verify the test email address is entered correctly.
  • Ensure your sending domain has proper SPF, DKIM, and DMARC authentication records set up.
  • Contact cmercury Support if the issue persists.

Summary

Email Testingis an essential step in ensuring your campaigns are polished, compliant, and ready for success.
By reviewing both HTML and text versions and addressing any system alerts, you can confidently go live knowing your email will look perfect in every inbox.
